Mumbai traffic has become a menace (Read Mumbai Mirror ) and moreover all over the place MMRDA and BMC and loads other construction companies , there is a Metro coming up in phases and then there is always the pipes lines of water or electricity which need to be beneath the surface of the road, have dug up all roads leaving not much to drive on.
And then there is always new flyovers coming up in every T Junction as if we are trying to set a new world record of having the maximum number of flyovers in a city.
Need to have a solution to this problem and sooner the better , looking at the cars on road to only increasing day by day (Read new cars launch in mumbai).
I and my friend Milind , we were having a very hearty talk on the same and thinking of some solution to the problem of ever-increasing problem. After giving it some real thought , i remembered my trip to Taiwan in 1997 where i remembered few really important features.
Once we landed on the Airport , and packed our luggage and got in the car and left, we had already hit a so called 'expressway' which actually lead us to our uncle's home which was 35 kms. away from the Airport. We had no stops, no signals, no lane changing and no havaldar to ask for 'youknowwhat'.
it was just a smooth ride uptill home. The only time we took a turn was when we left the 'expressway' to a colony where my uncle's home lay.
My point i want to put forth is that we need to look at a flyover which streches to the lengths and depths of Mumbai. And for us we are lucky that Mumbai is a far more straighter city than any other. Let me put it this way, how about a 'Flyover' which starts from Mankhurd and ends in Nariman Point? why make different smaller flyovers here and there. And the best part is you can have left-right exits where ever there is needed. imagine having a 4 lane or 6 lane flyover in a length of 35-40 kms whooshing away the length which is suspended 15 ft - 20ft over all the nuances of everyday life. Imagine the time we save.
To illustrate my idea, it will a very long extended version of JJ Flyover from both sides. Another could be if we had the mumbai-pune expressway in mumbai. give it a thought , share your ideas in the comments below.

i wonder if it can be applied for Mumbai
ReplyDeleteimagine all the funding we would need for such mega strutcures in bombay.. the metro work going on nw..for example seems to be a nightmare...nd note it is privately done... so we wud just have to wait patiently.....
ReplyDeleteor maybe if we just reduced the number of vehicles on the road for which we wud have to get a hold of our population for which a nationalised campaign has to be reinforced!..ghosh what a vicious cycle....
@Milind it can be applied very much in Mumbai ....cause main reason is all Main Roads are very much straight
ReplyDelete@JJJ Money will play a huge role in this project , u are right ..... But there are always Huge fundings been done all over the country for Townships and Metro's which have big amounts been spent by the Governmen and private funding companies
@Woody Luckily Mumbai is not a earthquake prone area ....
