My trip to Indore, Ujjain and Manawar
Road Trip 2
Day 1: This was a trip which was planned by dad and me on May 1 at early 4:30 in the morning. We packed our bags in a hurry and were ready to go by 7. Getting through early in the morning wasn't a big difficulty due to less traffic. Dad actually drove the whole day right through till evening when we reached Manawar - a small town in Madhya Pradesh in district Dhar, and met up with an old friend of my dad - Kailash, who is a writer for a newspaper and also owns a Hotel at the center of the town at Manawar.
Day 2: Kailash uncle was kind to us to drive us down to The Temple of Lord Omkareshwar is situated on the banks of River Narmada, in between Indore & Khandwa. It is also a rare archaeological site. The temple is situated on an island, which is encircled by the Narmada River; to our next stop Rani Ahilyabai Holkar's Fort on the banks of the river Narmada (see images) The fort is a magnifique from the 17th Century and its still in the best condition as you could find, strategically located from point of view of scenic and war,
the next stop was to; the beautiful dancer Rani Roopmati's Palace right at the top of a hill from where there are splendid views to all sides, where Roopmati and Baz Bahadur's love flourished. It says Roopmati used to dance at the music played by Baz Bahadur when he used to play at his palace which was few kilometers away.
Day 3: We Bid goodbye to our family at Manawar and left for northwards to Ujjain fo where i was dying to go as i had heard of Bhairav temple where you get Daru as prasad, which is true we got this really kadwi daru as prasad. What was more sprising was the moorti of Bhairav also drinks daru and the pundits, experts do not know where all that daru goes to.
Next stop was out Jyotirling number 2, Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is one of the most famous Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingams, which are supposed to be the most sacred abodes of Shiva.
After the darshan, we had a lavish langar at the temple and for the first time i had food from my hands and not using a spoon, it was a langar to die for. Later Dad planned to leave back for the Narmada river, which was the best idea as we got to stay at this hotel Narmada Retreat, which was really a treat (check the images of the place), if you ever travel to MP, you must must must stay at this place atleast for one night. this was bday night and it was lighting continuously outside our hotel room and i tried taking few images of the lighting but with no luck i attempted taking a video too, and after atleast standing there for 14 mins i finally captured a lighting going right through my camera screen, it was just Amazing.
Day 4: Day 4 was a another big long day drive back to Mumbai from Narmada resort which took us approximately the whole day. After the nice drizzly weather in Ujjain it was way to Hot just reaching Nashik and on the Nashik-Mumbai highway i actually landed up puking all i had eaten for Lunch. Landed up sleeping the rest of my way back home.
In Total we covered 1800 Kms. and valued a great experience of central part of India. Please find links to Facebook images from my trip and feel free to comment and also a google map of our rendezvous on the road to central India.
